Fund Manager

The China income story
While the China growth story is particularly well known, the income story remains one less told. With the Chinese market generating a substantial yield, investors can diversify their income stream, investing in companies which offer generous payouts and can also grow their dividends significantly, whilst still participating in the long-term China growth story.
Douglas Turnbull, Fund Manager at Neptune, will introduce the new Neptune Greater China Income Fund and dispel preconceptions of China being a purely growth market. This unique investment proposition seeks to create a new risk/return paradigm, offering a cautious and carefully balanced blend of income and long-term capital appreciation thereby opening investing in China to a new audience.

Edwin Gutierrez

Portfolio Manager, Emerging Market Debt

Emerging Market Debt - a changing asset class
Emerging markets are tomorrow’s growth story. Over the last decade the emerging market debt universe has undergone rapid growth. It’s a more robust asset class - over 50% of the index is now investment grade. The resilience of emerging market debt to the most recent economic downturn has made it much more attractive to a wide range of investors. In this presentation, Edwin Gutierrez will discuss the benefits of allocating to this growing asset class.

Growth Investing in Emerging Markets
As investors we are well aware of the growing importance of Emerging Markets. The emerging markets' middle class is expected to reach 1.5 billion by 2030. A boom in infrastructure expenditure continues - investment in power, water, rail, ports and other infrastructure should exceed $20 trillion over the next decade whilst an estimated 80% of world oil reserves and 50% of iron ore has "fuelled" commodity oriented growth. A combination of relatively low labour costs, growing skilled labour force and large capital investments have turned emerging markets into the centre of global manufacturing.

Jupiter Asset Management

Elena Shaftan

Head, Emerging European Equity Team and Director

Fundamental growth opportunities
Elena has managed the Jupiter Emerging European Opportunities Fund since its launch in September 2002, and the Jupiter New Europe SICAV since its launch in November 2007.
In this presentation, she will discuss the potential opportunities available to investors in Eastern European markets which currently trade at a significant discount to peers, yet in many cases boast stronger fundamentals than many developed countries.
In Elena’s view, Russia’s rising household consumption is a significant driver of growth, and while the market is vulnerable to volatility in commodity prices, this is reflected in valuations - Russia is the cheapest major equity market in the world. She also believes that Turkish equities are attractively valued, and the economy is experiencing strong momentum as banks expand their lending books. The region offers a wide range of opportunities for long-term investors to gain exposure to quality companies operating in underleveraged markets at advantageous prices.

Lazard Asset Management

Peter Gillespie

Portfolio Manager, Lazard Developing Markets Fund

The benefits that growth stocks and style blending can offer to an investor's portfolio
The presentation focuses on increasing allocations, opportunities and investment styles within emerging markets, including case study examples of growth and value stocks and their differing contributions from an investment perspective.
This will be followed by an overview of the Lazard Developing Markets Fund.

Boardroom sessions run in five simultaneous groups with the delegates remaining in their allocated seminar rooms and the speakers moving sequentially between rooms to deliver their presentations to each group in turn.
